'The Search for Transcendent Values' 99k
This is a talk delivered to a Freud Museum conference on 'Psychoanalysis and Religion', 1 June 1996. I was asked to link my own development with respect to religion to my academic work and to my work in psychoanalytic theory and in practice. The essay explores mind and brain, Darwinism, history of ideas, sociology of knowledge, marxism and the locus of moral sensibility in primitive processes. The centrality of culture as the matrix for all these ideas is emphasized.
