'Postmodernism & the Subject: Pessimism of the Will' 63K
I was invited to give a paper at a conference organised by Marike Finlay at McGill on 'Rethinking the Subject in Discourse'. I decided to attack the fragmenttion thesis of postmodernism head on, using arguments from the philosophy of science, from, inter alia, Charles Taylor, Richard Rorty, cubism, object relations theory and the relative historicity of the Twenty-Third Psalm. The essay was published in Free Associations no. 16: 81-96, 1989.
