A lot of heartache has been spent on this Tallis's article (Burying Freud) in The
Lancet, one of the world's most prestigious medical Journals. Concern rippled through the
British Psycho-Analytical Society, and fur was ruffled. But, apparently it was an
unsolicited article that was merely well-written. There are, according to The Lancet
Editor, Richard Horton, some massively devastating letters in response which he proposes
to publish in 3-4 weeks. Any further response will have to be very rapidly submitted to
him in order to stand any chance of being published. Incidentally the Editor is
knowledgeable and friendly towards psycho-analysis, and appears to mean no harm. In fact I
met him at a British Psycho-Analytical Society meeting yesterday evening where he was
giving a talk to us - on the genetics of homosexuality! He just enjoys a good lively
debate. He doesn't think much of Dean Hamer and the others!
